Ian MacRae, U of M Ph.D and Professor Department of Entomology, worked with Sentera to develop, manufacture, and deploy sensors that have refined the understanding of how insects and disease affect the spectral response of agricultural crops.
Ian needed specific, customized sensors to refine the understanding of how disease and insects affect the spectral response of agricultural crops.
“We’ve done a considerable amount of research into how the soybean aphid damages crops and how that damage affects the reflectance of light wavelengths. Through our research, we identified three near infrared wavelengths that appeared to be specifically associated with soybean aphid damage. Sentera developed a sensor that was able to isolate those wavelengths.”
