The FAA Remote Identification (RID) requirements are a new set of regulations that will require all drones that are flown for commercial purposes to be equipped with a remote identification (RID) device. Starting March 16, 2024, the FAA will require that all drones flown for commercial use be equipped with a Remote ID beacon to transmit the drone’s identification information, location, and altitude to ground stations and other aircraft in the area.
Earlier this summer, Sentera announced that the FAA had approved its UAS Remote Identification solution for the PHX. Moving forward, Sentera’s Remote ID solution will be included with all new PHX fixed-wing drone systems. Existing customers will be able to purchase and install the add-on kit to ensure compliance.
In this blog post, we’ll answer some of the top questions we’ve heard regarding Remote ID and how it’ll work with the PHX.
What is FAA Remote Identification?
FAA UAS Remote Identification (RID) is a set of regulations that will require all drones that are flown for commercial purposes to be equipped with a remote identification (RID) device. The RID device will transmit the drone’s identification information, location, and altitude to ground stations and other aircraft in the area.
Why is the FAA requiring RID?
The FAA is requiring RID to improve safety and security in the drone airspace. The RID information will allow other aircraft to see the drone and avoid collisions. The RID information will also allow law enforcement to track down drones that are being flown illegally.
When will the FAA RID requirements take effect?
The FAA RID requirements are scheduled to take effect on March 16, 2024.
What drones are required to have RID?
All drones that are flown for commercial purposes will be required to have RID. This includes drones that are used for photography, videography, surveying, and delivery.
Is my PHX compliant with RID?
Any PHX drones that have been purchased prior to August 2023 will require the PHX Remote ID Add-on Kit in order to be compliant with the FAA Remote ID requirements. If you have questions about whether your PHX is compliant with Remote ID, please contact our support team.
How do I install the PHX Remote ID Add-on Kit?
